For six years, when the Operadora Portuaria Centroamericana (OPC) took over the administration of Puerto Cortés, in Honduras, investments in state-of-the-art technology have made in the precinct and is one of the largest in the area.
The terminal has managed to promote productivity and increase the volume of containers, improving the times in the movement of cargo that passes through the terminal and achieving a decrease in the total logistics costs.
During these six years CPOs, it has earmarked resources for the construction of new infrastructure and the recovery from which it already exists, as well as for the acquisition of new state-of-the-art equipment and technology, reaching an investment of more than $285 million at the end of 2019.
Management is confident that it reforms the region through innovation, technology and process application, as well as international best practices. “This gives us tangible advantages over other terminals on the isthmus and places us as the best choice for loading and unloading containers in the region,” said Valmir Araujo, Senior Commercial Manager.
The authority highlighted the beep window systems, which optimize the operation of the more than 1,200 vessels served annually; and the fact that the cargo in transit is not subject to customs review in Honduras.
It also adds to the port’s advantage over others in the region, as it has the Container Security Initiative (CSI) granted by the U.S. CBP (US Customs and Border Protection). U.S.A.), which allows containers bound for the U.S. country to arrive pre-liberated by authority, which poses a lower risk to customs.
